Reception to follow in HUMN 350.

Actors and orators in the Roman world had much in common, so much in common that elite orators were especially keen to stress their differences even as they exploited their many similarities. What did orators actually learn from actors, and where could a meaningful line be drawn between these two forms of verbal art? This illustrated lecture examines the theory and practice of Roman oratory in the light of stage performance.

This lecture is sponsored by GCAH and the Department of Classics. The lecture is free and open to the public. Everyone is welcome.
