Richard Hunter, Regius Professor of Greek at the University of Cambridge: In the Beginning . . .
Tuesday, Sept. 28th, 2010
7 pm
Eaton Humanities 150
Reception to follow
The subject of this lecture will be the concept of historical causation bequeathed by the Greeks to western culture. Professor Hunter will explore stories of 'beginning' (including the start of Homer's Iliad) to show how in ancient Greece and also in the modern world such narratives often reveal more than they seem to intend.
This lecture is sponsored by GCAH and the Departments of Classics and Philosophy. The lecture is free and open to the public. Everyone is welcome.
